Getting a Clean Cut: Practical Tips
Start with decent contrast. Any background remover — cloud or local — performs best when the subject stands out from the background. Even lighting and an uncluttered backdrop give the model an easier segmentation problem and noticeably cleaner edges around hair and translucent objects.
Work at full resolution, export for purpose. Run the removal on the original file, then resize down for its destination: a 512 px avatar, a 2000 px marketplace image, or a transparent PNG for compositing. Downscaling after the cut hides minor edge imperfections that would be visible at full size.
Chain tools instead of re-uploading. After removing the background, you can compress the result with the Image Compressor, convert formats with the Image Converter, or strip leftover metadata with Ghost Mode — all locally, all without creating intermediate copies on third-party servers.
What Local Processing Can't Do (Honestly)
The in-browser model is optimized for portraits, products, and everyday subjects. Extremely fine structures — flyaway hair against a busy background, glass, smoke — may need a manual touch-up in an editor afterwards, and the first run downloads the AI model (cached for later visits). For the overwhelming majority of profile pictures, listings, and creative projects, though, the one-click result is ready to use.
